July 19, 2007Birmingham ShowDue to circumstances beyond our control, Steve and the band were held up at UK immigration this morning due to work visa issues. We would like to apologize to fans who were kept waiting at the show, or who were confused by different messages about whether the show would take place or not. Steve and the band overcame all obstactles and put on a show that was on par with everything you would expect from him and his band. It's just a shame they had to go on an hour late, and we thank you for your patience.

May 22, 2007Sound Theories - Released June 26, 2007Epic Records has announced a June 26 release for Sound Theories Vol. I & II, a double-live CD capturing legendary guitarist Steve Vai's electrifying collaboration with the Netherlands Metropole Orchestra. The two-disc set spotlights rare material culled from five European performances, a studio session and a soundcheck rehearsal recording, all of which took place between mid-2004 and 2005. Volume I features Vai playing guitar with the Orchestra, which has earned worldwide acclaim backing artists ranging from Mike Keneally, Terry Bozzio, Tony Bennett and Natalie Cole to Nancy Wilson and the Yellowjackets. Together they bring new life to both existing and never-before-heard Steve Vai songs, including "For the Love of God," "Liberty," "The Murder" and "Attitude Song," among others. Volume II features the Orchestra performing compositions penned by Vai, including “Shadows and Sparks” and “Bledsoe Bluvd.” Says Vai, “I wanted to be a composer ever since I was a young boy. Though the guitar fell into my lap and my fingers were glued to the instrument, I studied composition and musical notation long before I even started playing the guitar. Through high school, college and beyond, I kept up my studies but the prospect of getting your music performed by an orchestra when you're only considered to be an over-the-top electric rock guitar shredder seemed virtually impossible. To be able to hear your music performed is the greatest gift a composer could hope for. This was a dream project for me.” The full track listing for both discs is as follows: Disc One - Sound Theories Vol 1: “The Aching Hunger” Disc Two - Sound Theories Vol 2: “Shadows and Sparks” A yet-to-be-titled companion DVD featuring highlights from the performances will be released on August 21. Stay tuned to Vai.com in the coming days to find out how you can pre-order a limited edition deluxe digipak version of the album - available only through this website...

March 23, 2007"Friends of Gungi" Benefit - Win A Signed Ibanez Guitar!Gordon "Gungi" Paterson is a legendary figure in the music industry, having been a highly respected engineer, tour and production manager. From his early days in the UK with acts such as Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, he was a mainstay of the 80's touring scene with bands like Megadeth, and continued through the 1990s with bands including Steve Vai, and 2000s with bands such as Live, System Of A Down, Tears For Fears and most recently Fiona Apple. Gungi's easily recognizable physical stature is only overshadowed by his immense heart, personality and positive attitude. Last summer, Gungi was diagnosed with cancer - A large lump was discovered in and around the lymph nodes in his neck. To help Gungi and his family cope with the significant costs of treatments, the "FRIENDS OF GUNGI" website was established with a PayPal depository where you can make a donation big of small, along with the "FRIENDS HELPING FRIENDS BENEFIT RAFFLE FOR GUNGI." A great collection of rock memorabilia is being raffled, including autographed drum packages from Mike Mangini, Gregg Bissonette, Terry Bozzio and Josh Freese; a Mike Keneally signed music score; and an autographed Ibanez guitar courtesy of Steve Vai and Ibanez guitars. You can check out all the items being raffled HERE. The raffle for the Ibanez guitar signed by Steve will close at 1500 entries or on 5/31/2007. Visit the "Friends Of Gungi" website by clicking here where you can read more about Gungi's story, and check out all the great prizes being raffled.

March 20, 2007Steve Vai - European Tour 2007Hi Folks, Well, I was sitting here thinking, it's been a while since I was out there with my own band playing a full show, but would it make sense to tour on an orchestra record since that's what's being released? If I don't get out for at least a little bit now, it may not be another 2 years before I get a chance to. What if I just do a quick stint of Europe and later, the USA? Yeah, I'm feeling that need to get out and play for you all again. Okay - how about these shows below for starters? Jun 28 - Luxembourg We'll announce venues shortly, check the Vai.com Tour Dates page for links to tickets for Holland and France which are on sale now. There are still a few cities to be confirmed above, and we'll announce USA dates later. Will There Be An Evo Experience? What About The Band? It's tough. The Breed is like a family to me and although I know that we can probably get together anytime and do a gig or tour, this is may be a good opportunity to try something a little different. Tony and Billy won't be joining me on this run - but they are actually doing a project together and you won't want to miss them when they tour Europe in October! So, since there is no studio album with a firm band that I'm touring on, anything goes. I'm thinking of having a violin player in the band that can understand how to play like a violin player but still rip it up when necessary. Imagine some of those guitar lines doubled with a violin. That's pretty strung up!

Updated: September 14, 2006Steve Auctioning Jem VAI2K DNA Prototype for Charity - Begins Sept 14 at 6:30pm PSTNote: Steve is re-listing this item after Ebay removed the auction in error. Our apologies for the inconvenience... Steve is auctioning his original Ibanez Jem VAI2K DNA guitar and all proceeds will go to help his friend Cliff Cultreri. As you may have read below, Cultreri is currently suffering from a host of Auto-Immune and Connective-Tissue disorders that are attacking his immune system, a one in 100 million occurrence that causes severe pain and physical problems. Along with the special show at the House of Blues in September, Steve hopes to raise additional funds through the sale of this guitar to help Cultreri and his family’s financial needs. This is Steve's only Jem DNA guitar. It is the same one photographed in the Ibanez catalog, and the one that has spent some time in the Hollywood Guitar Center RockWalk Museum. It is one of only 300 world wide. It is in excellent near-mint condition. We are going to auction this guitar on Ebay - which will begin early next month. We will entertain serious offers for the guitar before that though, but please be aware that we are setting a high reserve. Here's what Steve says about the guitar:
Steve most recently used this guitar extensively during rehearsals for the Zappa Plays Zappa tour, but decided not to take it on the road where it may get damaged before the auction. You can email us at: talk2us@vai.com for more info. The back/front photo above was taken by us here at Vai.com in the studio and shows the guitar in its current condition. CLICK HERE TO VISIT THE AUCTION. Ends Sunday, September 24 @ 6:30pm PST.

In the year marking the 10th anniversary of the original G3 US tour, G3 returns to Australia this November/December. Satriani, Vai, and Petrucci cut through individual sets backed by their own bands, before the wizardry climaxes in a combined electrifying G3 jam. Touring with Steve will be The Breed - his all-star band featuring bass legend Billy Sheehan; guitar and keyboard virtuoso Tony MacAlpine; drummer Jeremy Colson and 7-string guitarist Dave Weiner. Tickets will be available for internet pre-sale on Tue 5 Sept at 12 noon. General public on-sale begins on Thurs 7 Sept at 9am. Check our Tour Dates page for more information. After careful consideration, we have decided not to offer an EVO Premium Package in Australia. Steve and Mike Mesker have always strived to make the EVO Experience something special and due to the logistics of this type of tour, various "special" elements of the EVO Experience would be too challenging to make happen. Having said this, Vai.com will be holding contests and select winners will receive after show passes to meet and talk with Steve after the show. There will be more EVO packages offered in the future at various solo Vai shows. Steve always does his best to make himself accessible to those who would like to see him.
